A short journey about me:

I’m a New Orleans native and singer-songwriter. I’m still making music—have been for years—and nothing will stop me because I love it. The industry is tough and crowded, so I never “made it” the old way when you needed a label or lots of money. Independent artistry is alive and doing better now; it’s more affordable and easier to pursue. The music industry is mostly DIY, so I’m taking full advantage. I must honor the late Sheila Ceasar, who managed and represented our girls’ group. She believed in us in 1983 when I was 11, singing songs like "Don't Ask My Neighbor" and "Silver Shadow." Under Sheila and Leonard Ceasar we were on our way. Rest in peace. I’m grateful for what they taught me as an independent artist.

I’m one of the artists who worked with the late Warren Mayes of Atlantic Records also a New Orleans native. He believed in me. He discovered me singing at St. Raymond Divine Temple of Deliverance in New Orleans (Pastor Bishop L. Butler). I opened for Too $hort and Eazy-E in the early ’90s — there’s footage somewhere I wish I had. Warren and I co-wrote and recorded “Baby Baby Baby Why You,” which DJ Ro of New Orleans played on his weekend show. I learned a lot from Warren. My love for music keeps me going.

My goal is to empower independent artists to keep doing what they love — you never know what God has planned. I’m 54 and still chasing a hit song. We already have many great songs in our library that haven’t been heard. Promoting music is now easier and cheaper than before.

I have one important tip: learn the business — I can’t say it enough. Also, check out my new EP, "Smile Again," Six new tracks made to connect with listeners of all ages. I did it — you can too.
